The United Friends of America is a democratic republic that heavily relies on the participation of all of its citizens. Recently, participation has been historically low. For this reason, the UFA Government developed Operation 26-26, which is an official goal to get 26 citizens to run for office each election in the year 2026.
The United Friends of America has 21 elected government positions. An election is at its most free and fair when every single office has multiple candidates vying for the position. With 26 candidates running for office, most offices should have at least one, if not several candidates for the citizens to choose from.
It is important that a functioning democracy actually has candidates for the people to vote for. One of the main criticisms levied against the UFA's democracy is that there is usually only one candidate for President. In a functioning electoral system, one cannot simply become a country's head of state just by signing up. However, Congress and the Supreme Court arguably face even bigger problems, where there are usually not enough candidates to fill the office. Congress can appoint itself additional Members as long as at least one Member is in Congress. However, no such protocol exists for the Supreme Court.
