For this brief I was thinking that I could create a documentary on something momentary and trying to preserve it. This means that I would cover something that happens during a period of time and then its over. I would also like to the use the word 'document' because it would work to help document a certain point in time so it is remembered.
I also think that words like record or resonate would work for a music video because I could use an older garage or house that people may have forgotten about and I film a music video for it. This could then help to preserve the song while also following the brief and the word 'resonate'
This brief could work with a music video because it allows you to be more creative or abstract with whatever you create. For example, if you chose a song that is 'different' or 'weirder' then it could work with this type of abstract style because the song and the video would allow you to completely think about this brief and include it.
Another word from this brief that stands out for me is 'Synthesise'. This is because the word means to 'produce (sound) electronically' which would link to many newer songs. For example, lots of modern songs have synthesised sounds and effects to make it sound higher quality or electronic e.g. house music/ drum and bass.

Informational documentary.
Talks about how raving and clubbing started.
Has references to how it has changed over years.
Shows footage from different raves and clubs in the 90's and talks about the culture of it at the time.
In this documentary I like how it describes how raving and clubbing culture began while also helping to 'preserve' its story. It gave me the idea that I could create a documentary about how raving has changed over the years as a way to 'preserve' it and maybe even show the 'momentary' feeling that people experience when in this environment and when they listen to this music.

Looks at the effect that music has on people.
Talks about why people play music.
Discusses reasons to why people enjoy music.
Find out what good comes from being able to play music.
When looking for inspiration in this documentary I liked that it talks about the feeling people experience when they listen to music and how much it effects you on a day-to-day basis. I also like how they discussed different reasons to why people like to learn instruments or how to DJ. This video inspired me and gave me an idea to create a short documentary that can help to 'preserve' different types of music. I also like how it links to the word 'resonate' in the brief which means to produce 'electrical' noise.

Old song with old footage.
Filmed in the 90's with an old look to it.
'Preserve' helps to show the culture at the time the song was released and can help to preserve the culture further.
Has a simplistic narrative that still links to the genre of song.
For my final piece of inspiration I wanted to look at a music video instead of a short documentary to see what else I could do with the 'ephemeral' brief. I chose to look at this song because I think it works well with different words like 'preserve', 'momentary' and 'resonate'. This is because the song is old and it shows a culture that I think needs to be preserved. The word momentary came to me because I thought of the momentary feeling you get when listening to music like this. This music video showed me that the brief could also work with a music video if it has the right narrative and it is done right.
For my first idea I was thinking that I should do a documentary on how house, garage and drum and bass music has changed over the years. I think that this would be a good idea because I would be able to try and 'preserve' this music. I could also interview people who have seen the music change and try to capture the 'momentary' feeling that they experience when they listen to this type of music. Finally, I would be able to link it to two different meanings for the word 'resonate'. This word means to either produce sound electronically which is what is done in all of these music genres. It also means to 'evoke images, memories and emotions'. I could use these to link to both the style of the genres and to find an overall message for the documentary which would be the feelings that people experience when they listen to this music.
In this documentary I could even interview different DJ's that I know who play these types of music and find out why they like to play it and I could discover what they think about the changing in the styles across the years.
For my second idea I decided that I could do a documentary on why people play instruments. This is because I know multiple people who play instruments or even create music using decks as a DJ. This idea would link to the brief because it links to words like 'resonate' which is used to both create sound using electronic or static noise and to capture feelings or emotion from different moments. This also links nicely with 'momentary' because music is momentary and it changes so much even over a short space of time. I could talk about how music is constantly changing and why people who play instruments should try to 'preserve' old styles of music. I think that in this idea I could interview a few of my friends who play musical instruments and try to capture a feeling or emotion that they experience in the moments that they play their instrument. I would also like to show that music is 'temporary and short lived' and we need to try and 'preserve' these different skills that people have now but may not have years from now.
Finally, in this idea I would try to interview at least three people and ask them all a range of questions that could help me to find out the reasons why people play music and how it is only momentarily around and it lasts a short period of time.
For my third and final idea I wanted to try and think of something slightly different however include lots of aspects from the previous ideas. In this idea I considered doing a music video that shows a narrative following someone through a day of their life. The narrative would start with them asleep and starting their day by getting ready. They would then go through different activities in their day like their hobbies and talking to their friends. They will be dancing and enjoying the day with their headphones in as if they are listening to the song. The video would end with them going back to sleep showing that fun is only 'momentary' and it comes and goes.
For the song choice I was thinking that I could either chose a house music song which would be upbeat and would show reasons for the person having fun. Another idea would be an upbeat pop song that is well-known or popular to dance to in order to make it more relatable for the viewer.
This idea would link to multiple different words from the brief. These words being 'momentary' because the fun does not last forever and 'preserve' because a well-known song or an older genre of music should be preserved.
Advantages:
Would be entertaining to both film and watch.
It would link to more then one of the words in the brief.
This idea would also spread a good message and help preserve the story of raving, house and garage music.
It would also be informational and show how the culture has changed.
Disadvantages:
It would be difficult to film and collect B-roll footage because of limited events.
I would need to find people who have attended raves in the 90's and in the 2000's.
The locations would be difficult to film at.
Advantages:
I know multiple people who instruments so I would be able to interview them.
It would spread awareness of the momentary feeling that people experience when they play music.
It would also link to multiple words from the brief.
I would also be able to capture some of the reasons why people play music.
Disadvantages:
This idea could be difficult to film interviews because of peoples schedules.
It might be hard to keep this short documentary entertaining or lively throughout.
It would be hard to ask different questions to people in different interviews.
Advantages:
This music video would be lively and entertaining to watch.
It would make the viewer feel good with the enjoyable music.
Filming would be easier then a documentary as it is mainly B-roll and you only need one person to film it.
Editing it together would create a more exciting final product.
Disadvantages:
In some shots it may be slightly more difficult to film with one person.
Trying to fit to the theme of the song could be difficult.
Creating transitions and editing effects would be more of a priority then they would be in a documentary.
