Fernandez Sensei has been training in the martial arts since he was 8 years old when he started Shotokan Karate in the Philippines. When he immigrated to the United States he would eventually do Aikido at Hayward Aikido under JD Sandoval Sensei in 2008. He entered Sandoval Sensei's Kenshusei program which is designed for Aikidokas that want to be immersed in the art fully and eventually become teachers. Fernandez Sensei graduated from the program in 2013 when he received his teacher's certificate during Birankai North America's summer camp. He is currently a 5th degree blackbelt in Aikido and is also a 1st degree blackbelt in the swordsmanship school of Muso Shinden Ryu.
In addition to the martial arts, Fernandez Sensei is also a Physical Therapist who has been practicing for more than 20 years.
