Curated by DR. FARIDAH NOOR MOHD NOOR | ABD AZIZ RASHID | KHAIRUL AZUAN MOHAMAD RAZALI | MAHBOB YUSOF

The University of Malaya’s Asian Arts Museum (MSA) is proud to present its best collection of Mah Meri Moyang masks. In total, MSA has 118 masks that have been collected since 1980. Comes with each Mah Meri mask is the story of its origin. Elders convey these ancestral moyang stories through a time-honored practice of oral tradition.

Ethos of the Mah Meri moyang masks have been digitized as a sustainable means to preserve the indigenous knowledge and culture that is unique to Selangor in Malaysia. More importantly, these digital ethos are for the future Mah Meri generation to treasure and protect as their cultural heritage.

This exhibition is made possible with our collaboration with the Mah Meri community headed by Tok Batin Sidin anak Bujang and assisted by Pengerusi Azman bin Sap from Kampung Sg. Bumbun of Carey Island, Selangor.
