July 27, 2023 General Meeting '23

by: Sairaj & Manish

we met for our second General Meeting (the name capturing the temporal proximity to the IEEE PES General Meeting) over July 14th and 15th in Orlando, Florida speakers from across unifi provided updates on the efforts of the different working groups particularly exciting to hear about, were developments on the 1MW demo coming together at ESIF in NREL attendees included stakeholders from industry, academia, system operators, utilities, and OEMs

several academic families got together

we stepped out for a group picture and successfully dodged all the alligators

the External Advisory Board had words of advice for us and laughs to share with our students and scholars

presentations from Mukul Chandorkar (author of the first paper on droop control!) and Julia Matevosyan gave us plenty of food for thought.

October 31, 2022 GE electrification symposium'22

by: Sairaj

the '22 GE electrification symposium featured talks in two themes: i) aviation and ii) power grids organized at the GE Research campus in Niskayuna, NY, the event brought together leading researchers from academia and industry attendees were greeted by crisp fall weather, magnificent fall colors, and got a glimpse of the culture of inquiry and innovation that GE Research has come to be synonymous with unifi researchers presented several talks sprinkled across the agenda they also successfully resisted the tempting urge to work out stability certificates for gfm technology on Edison's desk •

unifi researchers presented 2 technical papers at the 58th Annual Allerton Conference on Communication, Control, and Computing (Allerton'2022) Alejandro Domínguez-García served as co-chair of the conference this year the conference is organized by the Coordinated Science Laboratory at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the Allerton Park & Retreat Center, a sprawling estate in Monticello, Illinois the venue is dotted with immaculately maintained gardens, historic art, and curious artifacts the power sessions this year covered a variety of topics, and grid-forming inverters featured front & center in several talks and discussions •

August 2, 2022 irep'22

by: Ali & Venkat

unifi researchers presented 6 technical papers in the 11th bulk power systems dynamics and control symposium (irep'2022) in Banff and shared their research efforts on grid-forming inverters this is a single technical-track series first established by Les Fink in 1988 and is managed since 1994 by the international institute of research and education in power system dynamics (irep) in-depth discussions with experts during technical sessions followed by up-close-and-personal engagements with deeper reflections afterward are aspects unique to the tradition of irep the chosen venue, Banff, is a scenic resort town tucked away within the rocky mountain ranges in Canada while several towering figures in the field participated in the program to showcase their contributions in advancing power engineering, the supermassive sky-scrapping mountains that surrounded us constantly reminded us of human insignificance vis-à-vis the power of nature!

July 26, 2022 unifi in-person meeting

by: Sairaj & Ben

it's been quite a busy quarter for unifi we successfully managed to get most consortium members, members of our external advisory board, DOE technical program managers all together at the NREL campus in Golden, CO, for our first, in-person gathering organized over two days on July 21 and 22, the event included keynote presentations, an overview of the current version of unifi specifications for grid-forming inverters, updates on consortium activities, and tours of the NREL Energy Systems Integration Facility and Flatirons campus   check out pictures from the event and keynote presentations below consider joining as a member to participate in future in-person meetings!
