The Platypus Affiliated Society organizes reading groups, public fora, research and journalism focused on the problems and tasks inherited by the "Old" (1920s-30s), "New" (1960s-70s), and post-political (1980s-90s) Left for the possibilities of emancipatory politics today. Our chapter at the University of New Hampshire meets on campus twice a week:
Tuesdays: Reading group is held weekly to discuss texts from Platypus's syllabus. We track the "Marxist cannon" from the bourgeois radicals (Smith and Rousseau), to the man himself (Marx and Engels), the political Marxists (Luxemburg and Lenin), and the Marxists after political Marxism (the New Left and the Frankfurt School).
Thursdays: Open discussions are a chance to talk anything politics: the news, history, activity on campus, whatever's on your mind!
