Tim Caverly has spent his life in Maine’s outdoors. Growing up shadowing his father who was a fire warden with the Maine Forest Service and his brother, a ranger in Baxter State Park, it was natural for him to seek a career in the outdoors. Tim is originally from Skowhegan, Maine and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and a teaching certificate from the University of Maine at Machias.
While in college, Tim began working as a ranger at Sebago Lake State Park for the State Parks and Recreation Commission. After Sebago, he continued his employment with the Department of Conservation with assignments as a manager of Aroostook and Cobscook Bay State Parks as well as a regional supervisor of the Allagash Region; which included the Allagash Wilderness Waterway and the Penobscot River Corridor. Tim was supervisor of the Allagash Wilderness Waterway for eighteen years.
In 1999, Tim retired from the Department after a 32-year career. Tim, with the support of his wife Susan and Golden Retriever Sandi, have self-published (14) books that range from children to adult. In addition they presents programs throughout New England to encourage literacy and discovery of New England’s spectacular world. Check out Tim's stories in his monthly column in the popular New England newspaper The Maine Sportsman at www.mainesportsman.com
The Read to Ride with Bikes for Books Reading Program is starting! This year, we are partnering with the Mason Lafayette Lodge #48 and Fayette Central School. Children grades PreK-5, can read and record books on the reading log sheet. When a book or 10 pages, is read by you (for the younger children) or your child, your child will color a book. All recording sheets are due on the last day of each month. At the end of the month, students will turn in their recording sheet at the school or the library. The students will exchange the recording sheets for tickets to put in the bike drawing. Students can earn one ticket per month to put in the drawing from November to April. We will draw for the bikes in the spring. Happy reading!
Bikes for Books will run from September 2025-April 2026. Letters and reading logs will be sent home with students at Fayette Central School.
