“The Uncommon Core” Band: Although this fundraising event is not sponsored by the PreK-8 Rumson School District, the band is comprised of teachers from the district who have united their talents, blending their passion for music and teaching to create memorable performances to make a difference:
John Lebitsch: Band director for 26 years, multi-instrumentalist, and member of the renowned showband “The Infernos.”
Chris Macioch: Lead singer and rhythm guitarist, technology and STEM teacher for 26 years.
Fred Teschke: Bass player and veteran of 1980s heavy metal band, “Chalice”.
Keith Laviola: Guitarist and social studies teacher known for his electrifying solos.
Basil Henning: Spanishteacher, bringing youthful energy to the band.
Dave Dallas: Drummer, Social Studies Teacher, Maryland native, and avid surfer.
Louis Pelissier: Technology Director; plays harmonica, percussion, and provides technical sound enhancements.
Kyle Sheehan: Keyboardist and professional musician with the Mendelssohn Chorus of Philadelphia. Kyle is a music and drama teacher.
Haley Scott: Vocalist and music teacher.
The band’s roots can be traced back to Nancy Guthrie, former music teacher and School principal who, 22 years ago, brought staff members together for holiday sing-alongs. Her efforts inspired the formation of “The Uncommon Core,” a band that has become a cherished part of the community. Over the years, this team of dedicated teachers, custodians, staff, and students (some of whom worked tirelessly behind the scenes—even getting Charlie Puth to return for a performance) has joined forces with the broader community. From rocking pep rallies to leading sing-alongs, their contributions have created countless lasting memories. Notably, local musician Brian Kirk even stepped in during a talent show when one of the band members was unavailable, highlighting the incredible support and camaraderie of the community.
