What does it mean to be (an) Unbecoming Christian?
The choice to leave Christianity, though often considered loneful and shameful, can also be a collective building experience—especially among old & new friends, who’ve doubted & questioned & wrestled, who quietly gathered courage lots of times, who probably feel like telling some truth somehow, & who love (&/or are plagued by) creative writing as a way to process all this Story to tell. Unbecoming Christian is a Writing Community for each other to process, write, and heal from (what we once called) Faith.
Through interactive workshops, we'll explore biblical genres to inspire new writing forms, express grief, confront injustice, and envision renewal. Using close readings, guided prompts, and group reflection, participants will craft original works employing poetic devices like parallelism and metaphor. No prior experience with poetry or theology is required—just bring your voice, questions, and a desire to write truthfully.
Have we told you what's going on recently? Read some works recently written by our community members, perhaps inspired by our workshops, including but not limited to: short essays, poems, prose pieces, and articles. You'll find fresh perspectives and thought-provoking pieces that reflect our shared experiences.
Through trial and error, we as writers are constantly challenging ourselves to enter new spaces of creativity and thought creation. If you're feeling stuck, visit here for inspiration through creative prompts of all genres to spark new ideas and push your creative boundaries.
