The United Nations Association of Rochester (UNAR), founded in 1945, is a non-profit organization and a local chapter of United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA), located in the Upstate New York region. The UNAR promotes civic debate and discussion of global, social and economic policies. As a chapter of the nation’s largest grassroots foreign policy organization, UNAR works to encourage members of the greater Rochester community to address global issues such as human rights, international justice, sustainable development, and fair trade.
Model UN is a simulation of the UN General Assembly held in New York City. Model UN students become delegates representing member states and participate in debates, speeches, negotiations, and write resolutions. They resolve conflicts and vote for the best interest of the state they are representing. Model UN clubs meet all over the United States. UNAR hosts a Model UN Conference each March in Rochester, NY.
The UNAR Grant allows MUN Club Advisers and Students to apply for a grant for up to 50% of student registration fees or up to 50% club transportation to participate in the UNAR MUN Conference in March. The remaining costs are provided by the individual, club, or school.
