Advertising mockup - The Initial brief was to create an EP cover that can be used for multiple versions. It should be a brightly coloured dance scene, with an afopunk/ afro-futurism style. Incorporating of the South African, Jamaican and UK flag if possible.
My process
In this project, I wanted to explore the possibilities of my brief so I started with rough non-commital thumbnails. This was not shown to the client and was only used to aid me to jot down as many ideas as possible
I narrowed the original thumbnails down to 12, which was then redrawn to more clearly portray the ideas to the client. After some discussion, we agreed to combine the ideas of 6 and 9

The visualiser was animated in Blender. This allowed me to use a mix of traditional 2D animation and puppet animation while taking advantage of 3D space,
The album cover was split into components that could be easily manipulated.
The head for example bobs rhythmically, while the shoulders are deformed to move along with the beat. Some assets like the speakers grow and shrink based on the waveform of the base.
In Blender there is a feature called grease pencil. This tool makes it possible to create 2D animation in a 3D environment, and has been used to make the frame-by-frame animation. To better blend the original drawing and grease pencil animation a blur effect is applied, this softened the edges of the animation.
Since the camera is fixed I was able to take advantage of the 3d space and achieved a few visual tricks. One example was with the rings. It looks in the video to grow and shrink, but it is actually oscillating forward and back from the camera.
