I am trying to create a shortcut in which I can switch on Voice control, have my iPhone speak/read a text, and then have my iPhone perform the action mentioned in the text. However, my iPhone does not appear to "listen" or take action based on what it speaks.

i included an Amazon Echo with voicecontrol by Alexa within openHAB (2.4) and everything works fine.

Is there a way to enable/disable Alexa from openHAB (e.g. within a rule)? The reason for that is, that I want to disable the openHAB control by Alexa when I am leaving the house, so that no one from outside can control my home by shouting from outside.

Thanks @H102 - if i got i right, this would mean that i would need to check in every rule for items i can control via Alexa if this condition is true and i could not control those item via my App if i am not at home.

I too am looking for a way to mute alexa from within a rule (mute does not seem like the right word to stop something listening?? ).

I have an "Away Mode " rule that locks doors and alarms an alarm. I often turn this on by asking Alexa to do so. As I have two echos located outside, if someone knew the magic words, they could turn this mode off and effectively disable all security.

Fortunately, security is not too much of an issue where I live, but it would be nice to disable voice commands when this mode is on.

My wife suddenly started getting this response to voice commands after 4 months of perfect use. Tried recharging batteries, re-pairing the remote, etc. No joy at all. Then when exploring the voice activation option of the remote I noticed that the switch on the top left side of the remote that activates this feature was in an in-between position, ie, not set in the on position or the off position. Moved the switch fully down to the voice activation "off" position and the remote started hearing perfectly again. The way this switch is situated on the side, it is easy when holding the remote to accidentally nudge up to or down to where it is isn't set at all. This may account why the problem may suddenly occur without any identifiable change. Would like to hear if others find this a solution.

I see no switch to turn voice commands on or off . We have 2 remotes connected to this Roku Ultra. Both used to perform voice commands. Now one of them will not accept voice commands. I keep getting the, "Unable to hear you" response to any attempt at a voice command. I replaced the batteries without success. I removed and repaired the remote without success.

Only the rechargeable Voice Remote Pro has the switch on the left side. The button turns on/off an added capability of always listening for your voice commands instead of having to hold down the microphone button.

In Windows 11, dictation has been updated and renamed as voice typing. Like dictation, voice typing uses online speech recognition technologies to power its speech-to-text transcription service. You no longer need to turn on the Online Speech recognition setting to use voice typing. You can also choose to contribute voice clips to help improve voice typing. If you choose not to contribute voice clips, you can still use voice typing. You can change your settings anytime in voice typing settings. Microsoft will not store, sample, or listen to your voice recordings without your permission. For more info, see Learn more about Microsoft and your voice data.

Once an app's voice assistant is activated and actively listening to provide a response, the info on your taskbar will change to look like the following screenshot for Windows 11, which in this case shows that Cortana has been activated:

Voice activation can also be turned on when the device is locked and the screen is off. Once an app is activated with a voice keyword, it will be able to continue listening to the microphone. Even when your device is locked and your screen is off, the app can activate for anyone who speaks near the device and have access to the same set of capabilities and information as when the device is unlocked.

Turn each app on or off where it appears under Choose which apps can use voice activation. If Allow apps to use voice activation is turned Off for your user account, you will need to turn it On before you can turn this setting on or off.

It'd be super useful if "Enable Voice Control" and "Disable Voice Contol" actions could be added, esp. as it's possible to turn off voice control via voice control, but as far as i can tell the only way to turn it back on is to navigate to a system preference several layers deep.

Would still like this, but more research showed there is a faster way: Open Siri via the System Keyboard Shortcut you've set, and then tell Siri to "enable voice control", then close Siri. So still, being integrated into BTT - as enable siri is - would save two steps.

Hey, I think you'd be able to do this by going into keyboard settings, and creating a shortcut to toggle voice control. Then you could send the shortcut as the output of some BTT action. Screenshot is system preferences => keyboard. Hope this helps!

Tried calling lights out directly by name and also as "dim the lights", as they're part of a room group. I double checked that I'm not crazy by adding a TP-link wifi bulb to the room group and it dims just fine by voice.

Wanted to follow up on this issue. It turns out that adding a TP-link bulb to any Alexa Group with Lutron switches controlled by HE will break the voice dimming functionality of the Lutron dimmers in that group. Example, I tried adding the TP-link bulb to my bedroom, living room, and kitchen and as I added the bulb to each group, the only light that would dim by voice is the TP-link bulb. As soon as I remove the TP-link bulb from the group then the Lutron dimmers can be controlled by voice again. How incredibly goofy is this??

But when I use the voice command turn the tv off or use the off button on the remote in the Google home app all that happens is that the chromecast is turned off. I then get the LG Screensaver logo since nothing else is turned on, on the tv. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong, in my son's room everything works but the chromecast and nest are different versions.

Hello Chicksel,

This certainly hasn't been easy on you. I highly suggest checking with LG support to see if this feature is supported. Certain voice commands are not supported by the manufacturers, which is why the Google Home Mini is unable to perform them.

Regards,

Lovely

Sorry for the delays. Simplink is designed for basic control of your TV through HDMI. The firmware on your Chromecast Google TV is up to date. It may be helpful to contact LG support to determine if your TV supports voice commands for turning it off with a third-party device like the Home Mini. This will allow me to proceed to the next steps in resolving the issue. Once they confirm that the feature is supported, I can then forward this with our Senior Specialist team for further investigation.

Thank you for informing us. As you have confirmed with the TV manufacturer that turning off via voice command is not supported, we can now consider this thread resolved. I understand that this may not be the ideal resolution you were hoping for, but please let us know if you have any further questions. Otherwise, I will be locking this thread after 24 hours.

I think, Gnome-Voice-Control is not in the repositories ("Unable to locate package gnome-voice-control"). And as you can see here and here it is not longer developed.

In Simon, for example, you can record a command and link it to a bash-script doing what you want or link it to DBUS-commands. In this way it is very easy to create any voice command! I tried it and it works fine. The more you train your Speech-commands, the better it understands your commands after that.

I just upgraded my S2 to ICS and continued facing the same problem.. The solution for the problem is Settings -> Language and Input -> Keyboard and input methods. Make sure Google voice typing is unchecked... Problem solved...

I don't know about the S2, but I've just discovered that for the Galaxy Note, there's a setting "Launch voice talk" (launch by double-tapping home) that only appears when Vlingo is set as the voice recognition engine. If you choose Google, the option goes away.

My 8 year old discovered the function yesterday but it doesn't understand what he is saying and makes some very inappropriate suggestions. He was on YouTube and did a voice search for Lemurs and it thought he said **bleep** and showed suggested Videos!

If your remote has the voice control button and the box works with it you definitely have a 360 box, V6 doesn't support voice control, unfortunately you can't turn the feature off as far as I know, it would be interesting to know what you have been told because I believe you have spoken to the offshore support who have either misunderstood or just told you something to get you off the phone. 17dc91bb1f
