About Blessings in a Backpack

WHO ARE WE SUPPORTING?

This year the Class of 2021 has decided to support the local Baltimore Chapter of Blessing in a Backpack. This organization mobilizes communities, individuals, and resources to provide food on the weekends for elementary school children across America who might otherwise go hungry. To provide one hunger-free weekend to a child, the average cost is $2.90, and as little as $110 gives a child a school-year full of hunger-free weekends (38 weeks).

Blessings in a Backpack currently feeds over 87,300 children in nearly 1,092 schools in 45 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. We are hoping to support school programs in Baltimore to ensure children in our local community do not go hungry over the weekend. Our goal is to fundraise to support a school's entire Blessings in Backpack program for one whole year! We hope you will join us in supporting this marvelous cause.

THE IMPACT

While federal government programs support meals for children during the week, several students are unable to obtain nutrition over the weekend and go hungry. According to Feeding America, more than 13 million children in the United States live in food insecure homes, highlighting a large need of support. Research by Quaker Oats and Ipsos has suggested that feeding children over the weekend not only promotes nutrition, but also improves school attendance by 60% and improves learning at school by 59%. Small donations can easily make a huge impact on the life and academic career of students who live in food insecure homes. We hope you will support our cause with monetary or item donations (through clicking the DONATE TODAY tab). Additionally we hope you can attend our auction to further support this cause.
