This testudo located outside the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center is one of five identicals across campus. This version of Testudo was contributed by Edward M. '52 and Loretta M. Downey on behalf of their direct descendent Simon Long Downey. Testudo itself is a symbol of University of Maryland pride. It is common to see students walking past the Alumni center, stop by to rub the nose of the bronze terrapin for good luck.
