HYGIENE CHECKLIST

. Single-Use (Disposable) Items

• Disposable tattoo needles/cartridges

• Disposable ink caps

• Disposable razors for shaving

• Barrier film, clip cord covers, machine bags, and bed covers

 All these must be used once and thrown away immediately after the session.

2. Sanitizing & Disinfecting

• Clean all surfaces with hospital-grade disinfectant before and after each client.

• Use 70% isopropyl alcohol for quick surface disinfection.

• Use approved disinfectants (e.g., Cavicide or equivalent) for deeper cleaning.

 Wipe down:

• Tattoo chair/bed

• Machine grip (if reusable)

• Power supply, foot pedal

• Work surfaces

• Bottles (wrapped in barrier film)

3. Hand Hygiene

• Wash hands thoroughly before putting on gloves.

• Use nitrile or latex gloves—change gloves often:

  • after touching anything non-sterile

  • before touching the client

  • during setup and breakdown

4. Skin Prep on Client

• Shave area with disposable razor.

• Wash area with antimicrobial soap or green soap.

• Wipe with 70% alcohol before starting the tattoo.

5. Clean Studio Setup

• Keep a clean zone (sterile equipment only) and a dirty zone (used equipment).

• Never cross-contaminate — once gloves touch something dirty, change them.

• All reusable metal grips or tubes must be:

  1. Ultrasonically cleaned

  2. Bagged and autoclaved

6. Ink Safety

• Use only professional tattoo ink.

• Never dip into the bottle — pour into ink caps.

• Discard leftover ink after the session.

• Keep bottles wiped and covered with barrier film.

7. Waste Disposal

• Needles go into a proper sharps container.

• Used gloves, razors, barriers, and wipes go into biohazard waste bags if required by local rules.
