Multimedia Writing & Design Support

the Process

Step 1: Plan

Your instructor has asked you to create a multimedia project. But where do you start? The first step is to plan out your ideas to make sure the content is aligned, strategic, and organized.

Take the time to read the directions for your assignment and ensure that you understand the guidelines for the project and how you will be graded.

Who is your audience?

What are the main takeaways or messages you want to leave your audience with?

How will you develop your ideas? Will you provide data, anecdotes, images, etc.?

What multimedia elements can make your story more dynamic (e.g., video, music, audio, animation, etc.)?

Create an outline or storyboard for your project to ensure the content is organized and the ideas flow.

Step 2: Create

Once you have a plan in place it's time to start putting it into action. There are many different kinds of media so be sure to choose a medium that best aligns with your plan, especially the requirements for the assignment.

Step 3: Review & Revise

After you've completed an initial draft of your media project, it's time to take a step back, review what you've created and make necessary revisions.

Go back to your plan and make sure that you've created something that still meets all of the original requirements.

Invite those whose opinions you trust to join you in the review process. Its easy to miss mistakes when you've been working on something closely for too long. More often then not, a fresh pair of eyes will catch really obvious mistakes that you just didn't see.

Don't be afraid of the 1st, 2nd and even 3rd draft of a project as long as time allows. Hardly anyone does their best work the first time around.

Step 4: Publish

Congratulations, you've finished your multimedia project! Now it’s time to share your hard work with your instructors and/or peers.
