To maintain academic integrity, students must complete assignments without using Gen-AI to gather information, content, or ideas for their coursework. Students should refrain from using Gen-AI tools like ChatGPT or automated essay writing services to complete assignments or write essays, to complete an outline, as a grammar checker, or to complete an observation.Student researchers should refrain from using Gen-AI driven data analysis tools or software to process and analyze data for their studies.
Students can use Gen-AI generated content as long as it is properly cited, critically evaluated, and thoughtfully integrated to enhance the quality of their assignments rather than substituting their own thinking and synthesis.
Gen-AI can spark ideas and inspire creativity. It can be used initially to further one's original thoughts, enhance the initial stages of creativity, or stimulate preliminary sparks of thought, but it cannot be used to complete portions of assignments or fulfill components of rubrics directly from the content that Gen-AI created.
Gen-AI assisted editing tools can help students improve their written assignments. As an editor, Gen-AI is not to be used to create content.
Following the instructor’s guidelines, the student may use Gen-AI for specific assignments at various points throughout the assignment, but does not replace the student’s original work. Instructors may require the student to submit the original and Gen-AI generated work and have students discuss how they integrated the information.
