Git Version Control

College of Information and Computer Sciences / University of Massachusetts Amherst

Course Description

Version control systems (VCS) is an important skill that is useful in any programming environment. Git is a popular VCS that dominates software development in the software development community. This supplemental course provides the necessary skills modern computer science students need to be successful in developing software in today's complicated programming environments and team-oriented projects.

This course is currently completely self-directed and has no associated credit. In fact, it is really hard to call it a course at all - it is more of a guide! However, it will be useful for preparing you for courses that assume familiarity with version control systems and Git in particular. It consists of a selection of useful resources and a list of learning objectives that you can follow to ensure that you are properly prepared for those courses requiring version control skills.
