Umara Sinhawansa is a female musician based in Sri Lanka. She was born on 14 March 1989 into a musical family as the daughter of Tony Sinhawansa and Ayesha Sinhawansa. She is also related to the late singer and actress Rukmani Devi. She has 3 siblings, one sister, and 2 brothers, the sister Umaria Sinhawansa is also a renowned female musician in Sri Lanka. Umara was educated at Muslim Ladies’ College. During the early days, Umara Sinhawansa and her sister Umaria won third place in Crimea Music Fest 2011 and then she also won first place at the All-Island Singing Competition of Sri Lanka.

Umara Sinhawansa along with her sister Umaria did her first professional recording at the age of 10 and first public performance at age 13. In the early phase of her career, Umara teamed up with Bathiya and Santhush (BNS) and worked as the audio engineer on tours. Umara is also known for being the youngest female audio Engineer in Sri Lanka who also worked with the legendary musician Shankar Eshaan Roy. The music album "Wassanayata " "Malakuth Thibuna" and "Sihina Ko" are some of her chart-topper songs. She moved to Hong Kong after her marriage and learned under Dylan Lye to master Jazz and also performed there with her band Proteus. After returning to Sri Lanka she launched her academy, Umara Music Studio (UMS). In addition to this, she does music therapy for children with autism.
