Download Signal Desktop 32 Bit

As titled, signal _______ is taking a significant amount of time to send simple messages. The phone app works fast, so it becomes annoying to switch back to my phone and then have a bunch of desktop messages flood in 30+ mins late.

I took the risk and just installed the .deb on the Librem5. When I run signal-desktop from the command line, I see the Signal desktop splash screen appearing, also the loading animation is started, but Signal does not go further.

Zooming in and zooming out works. I can also bring up the about window. Changing between portrait and landscape mode also works, but when I click a few menu options, Signal desktop crashes at a certain moment. I also tried submitting a debug log, but that did not work.

But, there is a start, hopefully there will be some progress over time.

Thank you for the information. After reading your comments, I installed the latest version 5.17.0 onto my PinePhone running Mobian, and I had the same experience that you described. From the disclaimer of the camera not working, it seems like it may have worked on an older version, and manual upgrades of a working signal-desktop install did not present any other issues.

I tried to create a new account using signal-cli and a free sms verification site, but this seems to require loading a web browser and doing Google captchas for verification, with no other options available.

Probably? Have you looked at Session Messenger? It might fit better with your preferences. The main reason I use signal is that the cryptography/protocols seem to be of more proven quality. But they seem actively on board with destroying anonymity.

I installed signal-desktop_5.17.0_arm64.deb as well, but Signal is still stuck on the splash screen for me, so I do not get the QR code in order to link. Are you using Byzantium? How long did it take before the splash screen disappeared?

The first line installs the curl program needed to download the signal signing key. This is just like on the signal website. I added two more packages: one to enable networking and the other to install a basic notifications daemon (xfce4-notifyd would be an alternative to dunst). These additions are only needed for debian-minimal templates and if you are using the standard debian template you only need to install curl.

hi @Sven I have successfully installed signal desktop on R4.0 but it first said failed to connect to server when trying to connect to the internet. is there a command to run a different port other than the :8082 or is this a firewall/proxy setting?

This will obviously also work with a debian-10, debian-10-minimal or a debian-11 template. The notification daemon is required, otherwise signal will hang the first time you get a message and the focus was away from the app. Nautilus is not required but obviously useful when handling files.

Same goes for Signal. I prefer to use the desktop version of Signal. But, Signal desktop installer for Linux is only available for Debian based systems (Link below)!!! Any idea how I can install Signal desktop app in a Fedora machine using rpm or yum repositories or any other way ?

Tried to downgrade the package, restored ~/.config/Signal from Backup, but nothing seemed to help. In the end I deleted the directory ~/.config/Signal and went through the quite painful process of registrating via signal-cli again. Now I have lost all my contacts and the history of my chats, which I find quite unsatisfying. It seems that for some reason the migration of the database failed in sqlite and maybe I am just overlooking something. Am I expected (or is it possible) to safe my history somehow? I do not have a smartphone, I just want to stay in contact with some people who are mainly in contact with others via socialmedia. So I have no different device, where I could get a history/user list from.

Most probable you took the wrong filter, signal-desktop is in [community]. So you have to "All projects" or "Community packages", and not "Arch Linux", which is the default, in the upper left of the bugtracker-page.

I pushed the new signal-desktop package to the unstable branch when the mirrors sync. I had this installed on my old phone but never got around to putting it on my new one so I have not tested this much other than making a note to my self on the desktop and it showed up on my phone.

The old signal-desktop package had an improper line in the PKGBUILD. It was making a link which would only work if signal-desktop was previously installed while building the package. It is hard to say what the circumstances were that led to your issue while installing the upgraded package. I do know that installing the new package here fresh there is no issue if signal-desktop was not previously installed and uninstalling then come back and reinstalling the new package there is no issue. The package is and had been installed in /opt.

Software signal-desktop shows that version 5.36.0 is available from community repos but I could not find that version. The latest version I can see in the referenced repo is signal-desktop-5.33.0-lp153.8.4.x86_64.

As I did after the release of v5.7.0, I have reverted back to the last working snap v5.16.0 and am planning to continue using this version until a new update will work. The command is:

sudo snap revert signal-desktop --revision 372

Start Signal desktop. It should show a QR code. Make sure that your webcam can see the code. If you solve this by having a separate movable webcam, multiple screens or printing the qr code on paper is up to you. But You have to be able to see the qr code in the web cam.

I understand the sudden move of signal-desktop can be disruptive for people wishing to install this package. Just to confirm the reason for the absence - Snap Store administrators had to remove the snap in accordance with our policies. We hope to have it back shortly.

In regards to the Whonix Default Application Policy, Element Desktop is only available as a third party deb package repository, from what I understand (official AppImage support discussion here -im/element-desktop/issues/657). However, the fork SchildiChat Desktop also has an AppImage, which I understand to be preferred by the Default Application Policy.

The second vulnerability, CVE-2023-24068, was found upon closer study of the client. It turns out that the client lacks a file validation mechanism. Theoretically, this allows an attacker to replace them. That is, if the forwarded file is opened on the desktop client, someone could replace it in the local folder with a forged one. Therefore, with further transfers, a user will distribute the switched file instead of the one they were intended to forward.

The application uses a centralized computing architecture and is cross-platform software. It is developed by the non-profit Signal Foundation and its subsidiary Signal Messenger LLC. Signal's software is free and open-source. Its mobile clients, desktop client, and server are all published under the AGPL-3.0-only license.[12][11][13][14][a][b] The official Android app generally uses the proprietary Google Play Services, although it is designed to work without them. Signal is also distributed for iOS and desktop programs for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Registration for desktop use requires an iOS or Android device.[21][22]

In November 2015, the TextSecure and RedPhone applications on Android were merged to become Signal for Android.[77] A month later, Open Whisper Systems announced Signal Desktop, a Chrome app that could link with a Signal mobile client.[78] At launch, the app could only be linked with the Android version of Signal.[79] On 26 September 2016, Open Whisper Systems announced that Signal Desktop could now be linked with the iOS version of Signal as well.[80] On 31 October 2017, Open Whisper Systems announced that the Chrome app was deprecated.[9] At the same time, they announced the release of a standalone desktop client (based on the Electron framework[13]) for Windows, macOS and certain Linux distributions.[9][81]

Signal provides one-to-one and group[118] voice and video[15] calls with up to forty participants on iOS, Android, and desktop platforms.[119][120] The calls are carried via the devices' wired or wireless (carrier or WiFi) data connections.[69] The application can send text messages, documents files,[17] voice notes, pictures, GIFs,[121] and video messages. The platform also supports group messaging.

The complete source code of the Signal clients for Android, iOS and desktop is available on GitHub under a free software license.[12][11][13] This enables interested parties to examine the code and help the developers verify that everything is behaving as expected. It also allows advanced users to compile their own copies of the applications and compare them with the versions that are distributed by Signal Messenger. In March 2016, Moxie Marlinspike wrote that, apart from some shared libraries that are not compiled with the project build due to a lack of Gradle NDK support, Signal for Android is reproducible.[188] Signal's servers are partially open source, but the server software's anti-spam component is proprietary and closed source due to security concerns.[14][189]

Speaking of top-secret messages, you can also set a self-destruct timer on any messages sent from the Signal desktop app. Click on the three-dots menu and then click on 1_____________________. Now you can choose how long a message will last.

If information security is a concern, the Signal desktop app is for you. Frankly, all messaging apps should have this level of security. For more security, you can click on File and then 2__________.

I hope your not powering on the PC then plugging it into something. You'll definately get no signal then. Just a reminder for clarification. Turn PC off, unplug power cord, remove video card and BIOS battery. Give it 5 minutes. Then put in the video card, connect a monitor, then the battery, then the plug. Your PC is supposed to boot, video card also. Implicated is that it turns on. If had a short or bad ground it would turn itself off, or burn up. Worst case scenario? You have a cracked motherboard. The video section of the motherboard is not getting power would be a valid conclusion. Check to verify if you can. 5376163bf9
