The Third Edition of UL 9540 dated June 28, 2023 has been issued to reflect the latest ANSI and SCC approval dates, and to incorporate the proposals dated April 29, 2022, October 7, 2022 and February 24, 2023.

On June 28, 2023, UL Standards & Engagement published the third edition of ANSI/CAN/UL 9540, Energy Storage Systems and Equipment. As with other standards for new and rapidly advancing technology, the technical committee (TC) reviewed numerous proposed revisions aimed at addressing new research and other information to help assure safe operation of energy storage systems (ESS), which receive and store energy in some form so that the ESS can provide electrical energy to loads or to the local/area electric power system (EPS) when needed.

Designed with state-of-the-art network processor technology, the SLX 9540 has a switching capacity of up to 800 Gbps in a 1U form factor. Advanced hardware with fine-grained QoS support enables full-duplex, highspeed performance for any mix of IPv4, IPv6, and MPLS/ VPLS services.

SLX 9540 hardware is available in multiple configurations enabled through SLX-OS feature licenses. The SLX 9540- 24S supports 24 10 GbE/1 GbE combination ports along with 24 1 GbE ports. The SLX 9540-48S supports 48 10 GbE/1 GbE combination ports along with 6 100 GbE/40 GbE combination ports. Individual SLX-OS software licenses are available to enable all 48 10 GbE/1 GbE and 6 100 GbE/40 GbE ports on the SLX 9540-24S, making it equivalent to the SLX 9540-48S. This approach provides financial and operational flexibility for diverse business and service deployment needs.

The SLX 9540 runs SLX-OS, a fully virtualized Linux-based operating system that delivers process-level resiliency and fault isolation. SLX-OS supports advanced routing, MPLS, and Carrier Ethernet 2.0 features. It is highly programmable with support for REST and NETCONF. In addition, SLX-OS is based on Ubuntu Linux, which offers all the advantages of open source and access to commonly used Linux tools.

SLX-OS runs in a virtualized environment over a KVM hypervisor, with the operating system compartmentalized and abstracted from the underlying hardware. The core operating system functions for the SLX 9540 are hosted in the system VM.

Gain flexibility and scale. The SLX 9540 delivers space-, power-, and cost-efficient density along with high performance for data center interconnect, WAN edge, IXP, colocation data center, and metro Ethernet network deployments.

The SLX 9540 architecture is designed to support connectivity needs today and well into the future as bandwidth and application workload requirements change. Extreme Networks offers an array of SLX 9540 configurations with software licenses to help organizations optimize port density and capabilities. These switches leverage the latest Intel x86 CPU and merchant silicon packet processor technology for optimal space, power, and cooling in a highly reliable, carrier-class compact fixed switching platform.

The SLX 9540 includes the Extreme SLX Insight Architecture delivered through SLX-OS and SLX 9540 hardware innovation. This new approach to network monitoring and troubleshooting provides a highly differentiated solution that makes it faster, easier, and more cost-effective to get the comprehensive, real-time visibility needed for network operations and automation. By embedding network visibility on every switch or router, the Extreme SLX Insight Architecture can help organizations achieve pervasive visibility throughout the network to quickly and efficiently identify problems, accelerate meantime-toresolution, and improve overall service levels.

The SLX family of switches and routers, including SLX 9540 can be managed by Extreme Management Center (XMC). XMC includes a suite of applications, empowering administrators to deliver a superior quality experience to end users through a single pane of glass and a common set of tools to provision, manage and troubleshoot the network. It works across wired and wireless networks, from the edge to the data center and private cloud.

OceanStor Pacific 9540 also offers a maximum of 22 + 2 Erasure Code (EC) redundancy ratio, achieving a disk space utilization rate of 91.6%. The system is cost effective and can work with OceanStor Pacific 9920 to build a tiered storage solution. Indeed, OceanStor Pacific 9540 provides flexible data access services for diverse scenarios, from virtualization and cloud resource pools to High Performance Computing (HPC), Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications, and big data analytics, as well as long-term backup and archiving of mass data.

The Spectralink Versity 9540 Bundle. Includes Wi-Fi smartphone, battery and charger has been discontinued by the manufacturer. There are no comparable replacements at this time. Please call 800-398-8647 or chat with an expert for a recommendation.

Over the last three decades, Strouse has worked to ensure accuracy in the parts we build. UL certification requires that your product meets industry safety standards, for example, the UL 9540 energy storage standards.

UL 9540 is a safety standard for an energy storage system (ESS) and equipment intended for connection to a local utility grid or standalone application. It designates vital issues associated with ESS, including:

UL 9540 is a safety standard for the construction, manufacturing, performance testing and marking of grid-tied ESS. This includes electrochemical, chemical, mechanical, and thermal storage systems. It also covers systems operating in standalone mode.

UL 9540 3rd edition adds Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulation 1910.95, Occupational Noise Exposure, as a reference standard, plus requirements for noise levels and how to measure them.

With the UL 1973 Standard for Batteries for Use in Stationary, Vehicle Auxiliary Power and Light Electric Rail Applications, Annex H provided a path for lead acid and nickel cadmium manufacturers to have their battery systems listed. Annex D adds new requirements for those systems to be evaluated under UL 9540.

The third edition of UL 9540 is published but not effective. You can start using it, but it is not required. The third edition comes into effect on September 30, 2024. After the effective date, you will not be able to list to earlier versions.

The VoyagerCG 9540 handheld, single-line laser scanners offer aggressive scanning of all standard 1D barcodes.Uniting form with function, the Voyager series has become the industry benchmark for value and performance. These sleek scanners feature patented, automatic infrared activation and decode all standard 1D barcodes, including GS1 DataBar&#8482: (formerly known as RSS codes). The VoyagerCG 9540 also includes patented CodeGate&#8482: technology, which allows you to easily target the desired barcode and complete data transmission with the press of a single button. For presentation scanning, Honeywell offers a stand with automatic in-stand detection technology.

The UL 9540 standard is a new safety standard for an Energy Storage System (ESS) where the system equipment is intended for connection to a local utility grid or standalone application. The standard addresses key safety-related issues of an ESS, including the safety of the battery component, fire detection and suppression, and potential environmental hazards.

A UL 9540-standard ESS is comprised of a UL 1973-certified stationary battery pack(s) and a UL 1741-certified inverter(s). To ensure the integration and safety of the high-performance system, rigorous thermal and electrical testing and evaluations are undertaken of the UL-listed components together as a system. 2351a5e196
