1/4 Scale Tractor Transaxle
We were given the opportunity to design and manufacture a new electro-mechanical shifting mechanism for the ASABE International 1/4 Scale Tractor Team for the University of Kentucky. Our design group met with the pulling team frequently to discuss potential designs as well as what the operators' needs were. Our design consists of a plate with highly detailed profiles cut into them allowing the transmission only to be in one gear at a time. Considerations were made during the design process to protect the transmission from damage caused by selecting multiple gears simultaneously. As the plate rotates, the shifting arms are able to be placed in the desirable gear from a knob placed at the operators station.
