Ukraine was once a member of the Soviet Union. in 1991, Ukraine became an independent nation. Since that time they have been moving away from their association with Moscow and have been attempting to ally with the NATO democratic nations.
That impulse has resulted in the Russian determination to subjugate and control Ukraine. In 2014, Russia invaded Ukraine. The war has been going on for 10 years.
Some Americans believe it is critical for America to support Ukraine.
Russian leader Putin has given a very stern warning to the U.S. to keep their military out of this conflict.

President Trump promised that if he was elected president he would referee a deal between Russia (Putin) and Ukraine (Zelensky). Trump met with Putin in Alaska on Friday, and with Zelensky at the White House on Tuesday, August 19.
Putin is willing to stop fighting if Zelensky gives up a significant portion of Ukraine and if Ukraine stays out of NATO.

Zelenskyy is reluctant to make a deal because he feels there is no assurance Putin will keep up his side of the bargain.
