Title: "What has changed in Postgraduate Education"

Abstract: The impact of the pandemic has been far reaching. While there is a hope of returning to 'normal' some of the measures imposed in the last two years have had surprising benefits as well as challenges. In this talk I will attempt to summarise some of the experience from the postgraduate courses at a large UK Engineering School and provide my own personal view of what we should be learning from the adaptations put in place.

Prof. Dr. Mark Price, Queen's University Belfast, UK

Title: "Engineering - the transition to the postgraduate learning experience"

Abstract: The growth in demand for higher level qualifications along with increasing global opportunities for students has created a dynamic post graduate (PG) education marketplace which has brought many changes to the programmes of study on offer and consequently the experience of the students. Every student comes to post graduate study from a unique path and with their own personal aspirations and expectations and every institution wants every student to have the best possible experience in their time there. The research culture at the host institution is a critical element of course, but the creation of a culture that adapts to the skill and knowledge level and cultural norms of students from diverse societies across the globe is not easy. This talk will explore some of these challenges from the perspectives of the student, their undergraduate (UG) home institution and the PG host institution. In considering how we each play our part in helping to get the best experience for all some thoughts on how networks like UKJEEL can help build understanding and lead the way in ensuring a smooth transition from UG to PG.
