The venue is the John McIntyre Conference Centre, Pollock Halls, 18 Holyrood Park Rd, Edinburgh EH16 5AY. This is located just on the south west corner of Holyrood Park.
When reaching the Pollock Halls campus, please use the main entrance on the west side. Walk past campus reception to find the venue. In the venue, follow signs up the stairs to the registration desk.
The venue is very well served by buses. The closest buses are 2, 14, 30, 33, 51, and 52, which stop about a 5 minute walk from the venue on Dalkeith Road, but there is also the 3, 5, 7, 8, 29, 31, 37, 47, 49, and 300 that stop about a 10 minute walk from the venue on Newington Road. The bus takes about 10 minutes from Waverley station - please exit onto Princes Street/North Bridge from the station to find the buses.
The buses are accessible.
Edinburgh Lothian buses have a single charge for a journey of any length. This is £1.70 for a single, or £4 for a day ticket (valid until 1am on day services, however day services begin to end after 11pm). Unfortunately, this has to be paid in cash, so please bring change. Cards are not accepted.
Please don't hestitate to get in contact with us if you have any questions or need any further help planning bus travel: ukacecon2019@gmail.com.
There is a taxi rank about a 2 minute walk away from the venue. Ask the taxi driver to take you to Pollock Halls. They will drop you near the campus reception - the venue is a short distance behind this. However, if you are unsure where the venue is from here, please ask in reception and they'll be more than happy to help guide you.
Taxi ranks can be found across the city on most main roads including around Haymarket and Waverley train stations, or you can use an Uber or similar service. A taxi from Waverley Princes Street to the venue will be about £7 depending on traffic.
Edinburgh is a very walkable city and the venue is about a 30 minute walk from Waverley Station. However, Edinburgh can be a little hilly in places and minor side roads can feature stairs, steep slopes, and rough pavements (especially in the Old Town area, which makes up most of the city centre). Central routes can get busy with other pedestrians.
If you have difficulty walking on hills, stairs, or rough ground, we recommend considering an alternative mode of transport.
If you aren't sure about your route and wish to check your path to the venue with us, please don't hesitate to get in touch and we can provide guidance: ukacecon2019@gmail.com
The venue has bicycle racks around the Pollock Halls campus. Plenty of people cycle in Edinburgh, but roads around the venue and the centre can get busy, especially with bus traffic, which might be challenging for less experienced cyclists.
The venue is accessible for wheelchair users. The conference takes place entirely on the first floor. There is an accessible lift in the entrance to the building by the staircase. There is an accessible toilet on the first floor near to the rooms. The stage area in Room 1 and the larger roof terrace have ramps to access. Unfortunately the smaller roof terrace is not accessible to wheelchair users for reasons beyond our control.
In the bar after the conference, there is an accessible toilet available.
There is an induction loop fitted in each room. However, due to technical reasons, only part of each room is covered. In Room 1 please sit on the right third of the room when facing the stage. In Room 2 we will advise on the day due to having a temporary induction loop installed.
We have a dedicated quiet room near the reception desk for anyone wanting to get away from the noise of the conference. You may also find peace around the conference campus which is modern, spacious, and features plenty of greenery.
Instead of clapping during presentations, we will be using jazz hands to show appreciation. This will be explained in the opening session. If you miss this session and aren't sure how to do jazz hands, please ask a volunteer during a session to show you.
The two nearest stations are Edinburgh Waverley (recommended) and Haymarket. There are regular buses linking both to the venue.
Come in to Edinburgh Airport and take the bus 300 to the city centre or venue as needed, or a tram to the city centre (Waverley station is on the tram line).
If driving to Edinburgh, we advise against driving in the city centre as it can be difficult to park and some roads have restrictions on traffic. It is easier to park on the outskirts of Edinburgh and take a bus in, or drive up near the venue from the South (using the city bypass if needed).
We have space to store items such as travel cases, backpacks, coats, etc. These will be kept in a spare room near the reception desk.
