Chango Secondary School is located in the Vihiga County of the western part of Kenya. The school was established as a community school in 1975 in response to the increasing demand for secondary level education from the local community. Land for the construction of the school was donated by the local community who were mainly members of the Friends church, the sponsors of the school. The first group of students used the church as their classroom. The school has over time grown into a Mixed Day and Boarding secondary school with the current student population of 650 students (370 Boys and 280 Girls). The school has consistently endeavored to promote all-round education, ultimately raising the foundations for provision of lifelong skills to the graduates.

Strategic issues and challenges
The challenges and issues in the school include:
Over enrolment attributed to the Governments’100% transition to secondary policy and high demand for school due to its location within the Municipality.
Increasing demand for boarding facilities in the school, the school can only accommodate 40 girls.
Weak reading culture among students, leading to poor performance.
Limited participation in co-curricular activities, partly due to inadequate playing fields and equipment.
Poor parentage, most students are under the care of grandparents who do not provide proper guidance and basic needs. This has led to moral decay among learners resulting to incidences of drug abuse and pregnancies among girls and eventually dropping out of school.
