Peacemakers — Let Peace Begin in Your Heart

Even as we mark eighty years since "the end" of the war, conflicts continue around the world, and the abolition of nuclear weapons has yet to be achieved. In a flood of unverified news, anxiety and distrust can easily rise in our hearts.

In these times, Uphill International House of Studies, which has long valued fostering international understanding, will host a public lecture by Ms. Koko Kondo.

  An A-bomb survivor from Hiroshima who once carried deep resentment, Ms. Kondo met Robert Lewis, a pilot of the Enola Gay involved in the atomic bombing. Seeing him speak through tears of remorse, she realized that “we are all human beings who are wounded and suffering.” Since then she has devoted herself to weaving bonds between people across national borders and to work for the relief of A-bomb survivors and the cause of peace.

Will a balance of arms truly create lasting peace? We hope this lecture will be a moment to share the courage and strength to open a peaceful future rooted in mutual trust.
