Global Perspective

Service Trip to Ecuador

I traveled abroad for two weeks to Ecuador in the winter of 2016-2017. In Ecuador, the group worked on various projects for two rural villages in northern rural Ecuador, Felfa and Chilma Bajo. The group was also taught about the culture in rural Ecuador.

In Felfa, we worked on three projects alongside locals.

The first project was extending the water system to 3 houses. Over 400 meters were dug by the group over 4 days.

The second project was building a public outhouse for the community to use.

The third project was building a big stove so they could cook bigger meals for groups.

In Chilma Bajo, we worked on two projects:

The first project was working on damming a small pond to bring more bird species to the town (Bird watching is a vital part of the town's tourism economy).

The second project was planting 200+ native lemon trees in the town for locals to enjoy.

This trip was the first exposure I had outside of the US and Canada. Seeing a different country and culture opens your eyes to a new perspective. I saw so much potential out in Ecuador and hope that this perspective on globalization can be translated into my career.
