Every year, international students from sixty different countries enroll at the University of Idaho, predominantly from Nepal, India, and China. This fall alone, 627 new international Vandals joined the Moscow community. Life abroad is not easy for anyone, but the highs and lows make being an international student a bittersweet experience.

to Idaho from Nepal. She grew up learning both Nepali and English, and with her interests in politics, she decided to move abroad to explore opportunities she didn’t have as a woman back home.

Cruise the World had opportunities for visitors to experience cultures from around the world with food and activities they might not be able to try anywhere else in Moscow.
“The tea at the Nepal booth is so good,” Patrick Determan said.
A member of the UI faculty, Determan had been to past Cruise the World events, and remembered asking for the recipe for the Nepali beverage last year.
“It’s pretty exciting to see how many people there are (here) this year,” Determan said.

I didn’t know Mamta Kandel well.
We worked together at The Argonaut for a few months and exchanged greetings on occasion, but we were by no means anything other than acquaintances.
Mamta died in the early hours of Dec. 15 in a car accident while traveling to Spokane. She and three other passengers entered the opposite lane and were hit by oncoming traffic.

Taste of Nepal celebrated it’s 12th year Saturday with around 350 people in attendance. The event provided attendees the opportunity to learn more about Nepal through music and dance performances, presentations, and a Nepali dinner.

Two University of Idaho administrators will receive 2005 International Civil Awards sponsored by the Nepal Civil Forum for contributing to the people of Nepal through two higher education exchange programs. Byron Dangerfield, dean of UI's College of Business and Economics, and Bob Neuenschwander, UI's Study Abroad manager, are among 25 Americans who will be recognized for their leadership through Helping Hands Health Education and the Study of Ancient and New Nepal (SANN) Research Institute. Queen Komal Rajyalaxmi devi Saha and Prime Minister Ser Badhur Deuva are scheduled to present the awards Feb. 18 in Kathmandu.
