Why Did You Choose This Major?

I chose my major because I like how challenging it is. Furthermore, I am pre-med so I wanted a major that would allow me to learn further about science and the technological part of biology to help give me support for med school.

Current Hobbies/Activities?

I like to go to the gym, go on walks, seeing movies, study at coffee shops

Long Term Goals?

I aim to pursue a career in medicine, hopefully going to medical school after college. I would like to stay in Houston for med school, but it is not a priority. I am interested in a specialty, pediatric oncology has always been an interest to me. 

Why Do you Want to be a Mentor?

I would want to be a mentor because I had a really hard time during my freshman year of college. I did a lot of things I wish I could change and there are things I wish I did do sooner. Regardless of major, I would like to provide the insight and support that I wish I had during my first year. Plus having a familiar face and someone to reach out to can help encourage others to do things that they are too afraid of doing alone, such as volunteering or studying at the library. 

How do You Feel You Would Help Your Mentee?

I would encourage them to integrate themselves more in school, whether it be by joining clubs or reaching out to professors. Furthermore, I would like to be someone that they can study with or get advice from. Overall I would just like to be a friend to someone that is new to the whole college experience. 

What Advice Would you Give to An Incoming Terry?

It’s hard and it’s lonely sometimes, especially if family ties are strong, but it gets easier and better with time. Soon enough, you’ll get out of your shell and learn to be excited with all the accomplishments you achieve. Furthermore, bad grades aren’t the end of the world and they especially do not define who you are. It just means that you have to put in a bit more effort or change your study habits to bring them up. Some classes may be harder than others or there are times where you’ll have conflicts that distract you from school, at the end of the day, all that matters is the effort.
