Major: Health Education
Minor: Medicine and Society
Why Did You Choose This Major/Minor?
I've always been interested in population health and how various social, economic, and environmental factors can contribute to the health of populations. It's very easy to suggest lifestyle changes for better health, but various factors can make those simple lifestyle changes extremely difficult.
I chose my minor because it's very similar to my major, but it takes a far more interdisciplinary approach to population health. I've always enjoyed reading and creative arts, and I'm able to incorporate these interests in a health setting through my minor.

Why Do you Want to be a Mentor?
I want to be a mentor because as a first generation student, there were a lot of things about the college experience that I wasn't sure about. Whether it was being unsure about how to join clubs, talking to professors in office hours, picking the right courses in the right semester, or getting involved with research, I've learned a lot over the semesters. I've gone through my own share of failures and achievements, and I'd love to pass on the knowledge I've gained to someone else.
How do You Feel You Would Help Your Mentee?
I think I could help my mentee with everything; whether it's course selection, getting involved in extracurriculars, or even personal problems. I think I'm relatively well connected, so even if I personally don't have experience in a particular subject or field, I'm more than willing to ask around and find the answer for my mentee. I want to help, so my mentee shouldn't feel concerned about asking questions. And, because I know how difficult it is to ask for help, I would do check-ins where my mentees can update me on their progress towards their goals.
What Advice Would you Give to An Incoming Terry?
I would say that every new experience comes with its own hardships and joys. While it's easy to get overwhelmed, it's good to have a support system that you can fall back on. Know that your friends, your family, and even your fellow Terrys are here to help you. Don't be afraid to ask for help, while that's easier to say than putting it to practice.
