Region V High Schools Statement on Athletics
Region V high schools recognize the vital role that athletics play in the holistic development of student-athletes. We are committed to providing equitable opportunities for all students—young men and women alike—in our athletic programs.
These programs are designed to complement academic pursuits, helping students develop self-discipline, commitment, teamwork, and mental and physical resilience. We believe that the lessons learned on the field and stage directly contribute to success in the classroom and beyond.
When approached with balance and perspective, athletics can profoundly shape students' character. These experiences offer unique opportunities to unite individuals from diverse backgrounds in pursuit of shared goals and a sense of community.
Education-based athletics often serve as a unifying thread that strengthens connections between students, families, communities, and schools. As an integral extension of the classroom, school-sponsored athletic programs enrich learning by reinforcing the values of responsibility, cooperation, and perseverance.
School sports mirror life in many ways. Through teamwork, adversity, humility in victory, and grace in defeat, student-athletes learn to navigate real-world challenges and grow into capable, principled adults.
