Activation is a simple, one-time process that confirms you have received your UnitedHealthcare member ID card and are ready to start using your benefits. It connects your physical card to your digital account, ensuring secure access to your personal health information.
By activating, you also verify your contact details so we can send important plan updates, Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statements, and wellness tips directly to you.
Action is required if you fit any of the following criteria:
New Members: If you recently enrolled in a UnitedHealthcare plan.
New ID Cards: If you received a new card in the mail with a sticker labeled "Activate Now."
Medicare Advantage Members: Many Medicare plans require activation to access over-the-counter (OTC) benefits.
Dependent Spouses: In some plans, covered spouses must activate their own separate online accounts.
We recommend activating your card as soon as it arrives in the mail. However, specific timing guidelines include:
Before your first appointment: Ensure your coverage is verified before seeing a doctor.
Before filling a prescription: Pharmacies may need your activated status to process claims.
Upon receipt of new card: Even if you are a renewing member, a new card number often requires re-confirmation.
Have your member ID card ready. The process typically takes less than 2 minutes.
