The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in largescale impact on the political, social, economic, religious and financial structures of the whole world. Topmost economies of the world such as the USA, China, UK, Japan, India and many others have been severely affected due to this pandemic. Stock markets around the world have been pulverized and there has been steep fall of oil prices.
In the above said backdrop, the G-20 nations called for an emergency meeting which prepared a strategy to combat the worsening situation, though such initiative has been termed as piecemeal and inadequate. The pandemic has exposed the weakness of major powers and America’s inability to provide the much-needed leadership at this juncture. Rather than coordinating with each other, the US and China are at loggerheads to blame each other over the causes of the origin of the corona virus. Global institutions like the UN and WHO have miserably failed to live up to our expectations to tackle the burgeoning challenges. Healthcare systems in many countries – even the advanced ones – have demonstrated their limited capacity to absorb massive shocks caused by the pandemic. At the individual level, all countries - including India - have been trying to cope with the daunting task of restoration of normal activities in their own ways.
Trends indicate that world politics is on the verge of a new trajectory. In this context, the most pertinent question is what would be new trajectory? Will the arena of global politics in the post-Covid-19 period be marked by more conflict or there will be a coordinated approach to address the rising challenges globally? The one-day international webinar aims to address these issues with a special focus on India.
