Do I have to be an RBIO PhD graduate student or RBIO major to apply for an RBC award?
No.
Graduate students: Any graduate student (PhD or Master’s) in any program (e.g., Regenerative Bioscience, Neuroscience, Toxicology, etc.) who is working in an RBC lab is eligible to apply for the:
RBC Excellence in Research Award
RBC Excellence in Instruction and Mentoring Award
RBC Community Outreach Award
Undergraduate students: Any undergraduate student, regardless of major, who is working in an RBC lab is eligible to apply for the:
RBC Emerging Scholar Award
How many awards can I apply for during each awards cycle?
You may apply for up to two awards during each application cycle.
There are several people interested in applying for awards in my lab. How many students can my PI nominate for each award?
PIs may nominate up to two students per award during each award cycle for the RBC Excellence in Research Award, RBC Excellence in Instruction/Mentoring Award, and the RBC Emerging Scholar Award.
PIs may nominate one student per award for the RBC Community Engagement Award.
I didn’t receive an award this year. Can I reapply for the same award next year?
Yes, you may reapply for the same or different awards in future application cycles.
I received an award this year. Can I reapply for the same award in subsequent years?
No. Once you have received a specific award, you are no longer eligible to apply for that same award in future cycles. However, you may apply for a different award.
What will be expected of my PI if they are asked to serve on an awards committee?
PIs will be asked to review and score award applications electronically. They will have several weeks to complete their reviews independently and will not be required to attend meetings. However, in the event of a tie, PIs on the committee may be asked to participate in a brief meeting (via Zoom or in person) to help determine the final award recipient.
When are award applications due?
All award applications will be due by December 1st every year.
When will award winners be announced?
Award winners will be announced in March every year.
