FREE CROSSOVER, WITH THE SCENT OF COMBAT BOOTS, INCENSE, AND GANJA
Raised from the traditional heavy scene of Minas Gerais, Brazil, Uganga delivers heavyness, groove, and powerful lyrics sung in Portuguese. The band, founded by Manu Joker (former drummer of Sarcófago), has just released Ganeshu, its seventh – and heaviest – studio album. They have also released two live records (one of them, Eurocaos, recorded in Germany), some singles, many compilations, tributes, and demo tapes.
In over 30 years on the road, they have toured Europe twice, featured at many major festivals and shared stages with many important artists around the globe. Uganga’s music transcends labels, which has led to performances alongside names like The Casualties, Exodus, Rattus, Moonspell, Elza Soares, Richie Ramone, Ratos de Porão, Crypta, Krisiun, Coroner, Marcelo D2, Dead Fish, Corrosion of Conformity, and Racionais MC’s, to name just a few.

Uganga has just released its seventh studio album, Ganeshu. The record is available on all streaming platforms since May 9—and will soon be out in physical format as well.Â
"This release definitely represents a new moment for the band. A new era", reflects the frontman Manu Joker. "I can identify elements from all our previous works in it, but it goes beyond the references we already have. There are truly many new elements. We recorded a raw, brutal, and experimental album, condensing everything into less than half an hour of music", he concludes.
The record was writen and recorded by Manu Joker (vocals and percussion), Juninho Silva (drums and backing vocals), Jean Pagani (guitars and backing vocals), and Raphael "Ras" Franco (bass and backing vocals). Both the guys in the strings session left the band shortly after the recordings due to their inability to join the upcoming tour and were replaced by VinÃcius Luz (formerly of Neurose) and Igor Wallace (Manu Joker & The Röttens, formerly of Rëstos and No Defeat), respectively. The recordings took place at the renowned Rocklab studio in Anápolis, Goiás, and was produced by Gustavo Vazquez and Manu Joker.
The graphic artwork was handled by Artur Fontenelle from Dead Mouse Design, who had previously worked with Uganga on Libre! (Xaninho - 2022). The design represents a figure that merges Exu from Candomblé/Umbanda and Ganesha from Hinduism.
The release of Ganeshu comes alongside three music videos and a four-part documentary of the same name.
The first of four episodes of the documentary Ganeshu: 3 Decades, 4 Elements is now available on YouTube. The series — covering the period leading up to the composition of the album Ganeshu through to its release — begins with the band’s journey through the Amazon region of Pará.
