“Dedicated to my instructor Sensei Asakiyo Kiyuna, the dojo in Okinawa the Kita Mae Dojo, to my first instructor Sensei Al (Takao) Akiyama who brought me to Master Uechi's dojo, and of course to Sensei Kanei Uechi, whose dedication became our inspiration world-wide."
Meet Sensei Pavesi
Sensei Pavesi began karate training in Okinawa under Sensei Akiyama with Uechi Ryu Karate-Do, earning 3-Dan, then moved to the Kita Mae dojo, training under Sensei Kiyuna, earning 6-Dan and Shihan (Master Instructor #175). Upon Master Uechi's death, the organization changed direction, but Sensei Pavesi continued to live and train in Okinawa for a total of 20 years.
The Okinawa Karate-Do Kyokai has certified Sensei Pavesi, now 8-Dan, and Pavesi Dojo was established to continue the way of Uechi style Chinese Okinawan karate in Seattle, Washington.
Over the course of 15 years, Sensei Pavesi has also established his Practical Self Defense programs for those who would not or could not commit the time to study the art of Karate.
With the help and guidance of several of his closest friends (experts in their specialties), he developed simple, yet highly focused programs including both strategy and tactics that are effective in real attacks and could make all the difference in life threatening situations. These are based on martial arts (many are simplified Uechi style), military and police tactics and professional personal protection practices.
His unique background includes experience in Asian Martial Arts, including Okinawa Kobudo & Chinese Wushu, US Military training, H2H and International business. After living, working and training in Okinawa for 20 years, Sensei Pavesi settled in the Seattle area to continue to train and share Uechi Ryu karate and his Practical Self Defense programs.
