Universal Design for Learning & Assistive Technology
A final project created for M.Ed. Learning Design and Technologies
Created by: Alison Beers
Purpose
The purpose of this website is to provide educators with a further understanding of how to incorporate UDL practices and assistive technologies into instruction. This website will use a phonics based lesson as an example. Read below for further information on the considerations and topic provided.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
UDL is a framework for educators to ensure that all students who may be in their classrooms are able to appropriately access information and lesson material.
Assistive Technology (AT)
AT in education is any product or technology that improves an individual's ability to access information, learning materials or improves the overall quality of their education.
Diverse Populations
As an educator, you do not have control over which student needs will be in your classroom. It is Important that educators design lessons that are appropriate and accessible to all populations of students.
Lesson Topic
The lesson this website will use is a phonics based lesson designed for small group instruction. This lesson is a direct reflection of many lessons taught at the early elementary level. This lesson will walk educators through UDL and AT considerations taken place when designing the instruction.
Lesson Plan
This lesson plan shows a phonics based lesson plan without deep considerations for UDL practices and AT. Visit the barriers to learning chart page to see how to incorporate UDL and AT Into this lessons instruction.
