In my materials and manufacturing class, we were tasked to use a manual lathe, manual mill, band saw, and a cold saw to face off, chamfer, tap, and dye stock aluminum and brass parts. The end result was a hammer with a brass/aluminum head and aluminum handle.
I learned so much about how utilize the manual machines and specifically the limitations of manual machining. This will influence my future designs as I dig more into geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and design for manufacturing (DFM).
