Step 1: Register for DSE
UCSB requires all sport club participants to register for their clubs on DSE. New athletes will create a profile; returning athletes must update their profiles each year. Further information on how to register on DSE will be provided to all prospective and returning members during the first week of fall practice. If you have any questions while filling out your DSE registration, please contact an officer or the coach.
DSE Registration is mandatory. You cannot join the Fencing Club until you have completed this step.
Step 2: Get a Sports Physical
All athletes must obtain clearance from a doctor before being able to compete. Your sports physical is an important component of your DSE registration, so get it done as soon as possible!
Step 3: Baseline Concussion Testing
There is information in the Sports Physical Documents above about how to go about obtaining baseline concussion testing. While concussions in fencing are rare, they do happen. This is important, and required.
If you have not had a baseline concussion test at UCSB before, this will be part of your DSE registration. More information on scheduling this test will be provided during the first week of fall practice.
Step 4: Pay Dues
Club members pay quarterly dues of $200 to the club in addition to a one-time charge of $50 to the UCSB Department of Recreation. Annual payment = $650.
Competitive Team member dues are an additional $600/year to cover travel expenses. Total = $1,250.
Dues can be BARC'd or paid with via cash or check.
Need-based scholarships are available. Speak to an officer or the coach for more information.
