UCSB Fencing Club

The UC Santa Barbara Fencing Club offers an opportunity for fencers of all levels to practice together. No prior fencing experience is necessary and the Club is open to any UCSB student in good academic standing.

We provide the coaching, training, and equipment necessary for success in all events: foil, epee, and saber.

During the school year, we hold practice three days a week in 2120 Robertson Gym.

Mon & Weds:
12-1 pm -- APC weight training
3-5 pm -- Competitive (Try-outs required)
5-6:30 pm -- All Club practice
5:30-6:30 pm -- Intro to Fencing

5-9 pm -- All Club practice

Wear comfortable clothes (long pants are highly recommended) and athletic shoes. Bring a water bottle and an extra shirt.

Summer practice times vary. Check the calendar for dates and times.

We compete locally in the Intercollegiate Fencing Conference of Southern California (IFCSC) and the Northern California Intercollegiate Fencing League (NCIFL), and nationally in the USA Collegiate Fencing Conference (USACFC)

UCSB Fencing is also a member of USA Fencing. UCSB students can join USA Fencing with a discounted collegiate membership to compete in events sanctioned by USA Fencing.

UCSB Fencing has access to the Athletic Performance Center (APC). Strength coaches help us to design workouts tailored to our sport.

Example 1: Bodyweight workout

Example 2: Fencing strength routine

Fall 2023, the Fencing Club training coincides with the lunch hour. Training will start week 2 (Oct. 9).

As a reminder, new team members cannot train until they have started their DSE registration and filled out a waiver form, and cannot start before fall quarter begins.

Our armory is located in 2114 Robertson Gym. The club provides equipment for all members, as well as a workbench and tools for equipment repairs. We have a limited amount of space for competitive team members to store personal gear.
