Welcome to the 2022 Unified Sports Challenge presented by the SONC Schools Department! Take on schools from across Northern California any time in April to see who's the ultimate champion!
The Unified Sports Challenge will take place on your campus or at home (in person, virtually, or hybrid) any time between April 1st & May 1st- you choose which dates work best for you! We strongly encourage you to submit Unified scores for teams of both students in Special Education and General Education.
Check back every Friday to see where you are in the competition!
All participating students will receive a virtual certificate and Special Olympics Northern California ribbon!*
*Certificates will be e-mailed to teachers/coaches for distribution & ribbons will be mailed/dropped off to each school

Become A Unified Champion School
As the school year winds down, don't miss out on the chance to qualify as a Unified Champion School! The Unified Fitness Competition is a great time to make that final push for inclusion on campus. Choose an activity from each column below* then e-mail your Area Manager, or schools@sonc.org to tell us what you've done!
*The activities listed below are examples, if you believe you have additional activities that fall within the columns or qualify you as a Champion School e-mail us and let us know if you haven't already!
Unified Fitness Challenge- Invite multiple classes to participate- create a shared Zoom class link for the day, or compete at separate times (remember to submit scores from both groups of students).
Unified PE- Students in Special Education and General Education joining together for PE (single day or multiple sessions).
Unified APE- Invite students in General Education to take part in your APE class for the day/month.
Respect Campaign- Students learn about inclusion & acceptance & sign a virtual Inclusion Pledge.
Ability Awareness Campaign- Students learn about unique differences & appreciate all abilities (More Information).
Virtual Athlete Speaker- Invite a Special Olympics Athlete speaker to speak to your students through Zoom, or watch a pre-recorded speech HERE.
Youth Summit- Take some time as a group to talk about the importance of inclusion & acceptance on your school campus, and what can be done to increase/continue inclusive activities. Watch this video to learn more!
Special Olympics/Unified Sports Spirit Week- Get your whole school involved in the Unified Fitness Competition with a fun spirit week! Create your own, or use these pre-made days.
Inclusive Club- Inclusive clubs join students with and without disabilities together and participate in a variety of activities (Best Buddies, Lunch Buddies, Unified Sports Club, Circle of Friends, etc.).
Inclusive Student Leadership/ASB- Take some time to learn about Inclusive Leadership and how it can benefit your campus. Watch the video HERE and discuss.
Campus Leadership Organizing- Get your Student Leadership groups involved with the Unified Fitness Competition! Students can compete, plan WSE activities, participate in the Polar Plunge, and/or promote inclusion on campus.
