In 2025, UC Merced was recognized as a Bee Campus, part of the Xerces Society’s Bee City USA initiative. Supported by a Seed Award from UCM's Center for Equitable Climate Solutions, this initiative promotes the recovery of wild pollinator populations on campus and its surroundings by restoring native habitats, providing nesting resources, and reducing pesticide use.
