The practicum course enables Master of Urban & Regional Planning (MURP) students to work in groups to produce a high-quality planning report, presentation, and infographics. Through a series of presentations, readings, guest lectures, case studies, and class dialogues, students gain skills about planning neighborhoods, engaging with communities, and improving cities. Working in project teams, students learn how place-based community development strategies can be used to foster changes in the built environment resulting in long-term sustainability and healthy communities.
The Urban Planning & Public Policy (UPPP 294) practicum course is a component of the Master of Urban & Regional Planning (MURP) capstone requirement. In this two quarter practicum course, students gain practical experience in project teams and improve their understanding of community engagement approaches in planning. The instructor of the course creates opportunities to network with planning practitioners, government representatives, community organizations, and local residents. Students will improve their understanding of consultative practice in planning, and they will also strengthen public presentation and report preparation and writing skills.
