What are the ages of the Teen Formal?
The ages that we'll be operating from for our NW Regional Teen Formal is 12-19. Anyone who is at least 12 years of age by the beginning of the event on May 23rd, and is not yet 20 by that same date is welcome to attend!
Just what do you mean 'formal"?
Formal dress is a specific dress code that is intended for special occasions that are a bit more sophisticated and fancy. It is often worn to weddings, funerals, banquets and balls, or other formal events.
Men: Men typically wear a darker colored suit, button up dress-shirt, and a tie, with dress shoes. Often, vests, pocket squares or cufflinks are worn as well to accent the more sophisticated dress.
Women: Women often wear full length formal gowns, sometimes dressy pantsuits, or dresses with loads of sequins, sparkles, bows or trains. Dresses must be knee-length or longer, and not have plunging necklines.
We recognize that not everyone owns formal attire. We want to encourage you to dress up as much as you're able, as part of the fun of a formal is dressing up with everyone. We are asking that all dress is at least nice sabbath attire, semi-formal, or formal.
Do I need a date?
Nope. You don't need a date - just come and have fun!
What is the cost for the weekend?
We are not charging a per-person fee to register for the banquet or the formal, or for any of the shared meals. We realize it is expensive to travel to attend these sorts of events, and as such - those expenses will be lovingly covered by the Salem congregation. Any additional activities that have an associated cost will be the individual's responsibility to take care of those costs. If you would like to make a donation to help offset costs, it would be greatly appreciated, but we do not want cost to be a factor preventing attendance.
What will the weather be like for the weekend so I can plan accordingly?
Typically, late May in Oregon is beautiful. By that point in time in the year, we're beginning to experience warmer weather (50's - 60's, sometimes even into the 70's) during the day, while still maintaining upper 40's to lower 50's at night. That time of year is still well within Oregon's rainy season, so the chance of rain is high, though the rain in May is usually more of a misty sprinkle most of the time than it is a hard, driving cold rain. With all of that said... it's a coin toss. We've also had snow as late as June 6th... Our Saturday Night and Sunday activities are planned to be outdoors. We have an alternative activity planned for Saturday night if the weather is bad, but the Sunday activity (a photo scavenger hunt at Minto Brown Park will take place outdoors, rain or shine) so please plan accordingly.
