Comments from previous students regarding courses:

  • It was easy to get the courses that I wanted. They were all decided before going to Ireland. My favorite class was MIS30070 ICT & Org. Innovation taught by Seamas Kelly. The professor was very experienced but is a hard grader. Despite the description, there is no need to have a technical background.
  • You get a course registration time and then you are able to select all of the classes you would like. The class offerings were published around the time of registration and maybe a little before. Classes were confirmed on arrival. It was easy to get classes you wanted. I enjoyed MIS30120, which is a class where I learned HTML/CSS. You were able to create your own website from scratch and it was rewarding. The required history class enables you to meet other business students from around the USA. The field trips are also very fun, but lecture can be a little boring. The academic program was very different than what I was used to with the classes I take at UIUC. Majority of the classes do not have attendance or participation points, and the exams can be 60% of your entire grade. Classes are pretty much up to you to stay on track and get your work done. This means that you may have a project due at the end of the semester with the professor barely mentioning it all semester. Most professors if you talked to them are willing to help and offer guidance. The business classes I took, the professor was the TA for tutorials. The workload was very similar to Gies College of Business classes. There is more emphasis on your own time-management and getting your work done.
