Let's talk

Applying to university and getting my approval letter put a huge smile on my face. I was finally ready to dive into learning new materials, meeting new people, and adjusting to new schedules. My first few weeks of classes were exciting and overwhelming; at one point I was like, Do I really need to do this? But with support and inspiration from my family, particularly my best buddy, I made the decision to put my "head in the game."
My choice of studying Business Administration was to develop a range of personal and professional skills, such as communication, leadership, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
These are my currently courses for this semester and the Lectures assigned:
Introduction to Business Administration- Dr Lorna Matthews
Orientation to University Life- Clarissa Beckford
Academic Writing 1- Khadeeja Clarke-Bailey
Introduction to Sociology- Kotra Mohan
My favorite classes are Sociology and Orientation to University Life. Being apart of the Orientation to University Life class has definitely equipped me with knowledge and understanding of UCC life and platform. Ms. Becford has been an excellent and committed lecturer, one who wants all students to reach their full potential. Mr. Mohan, on the other hand, is one of the most understanding people I've come across, and his teaching has helped me better understand the world and given me valuable insights and skills.
It is undoubtedly difficult to work a full-time job, be a full-time mom, and study at the same time, so my life does occasionally get crazy. Group work has always been one of the drawbacks of academia since occasionally people choose not to engage. However, I've come to understand that group projects can be a terrific way to cooperate on projects and learn from others. Working with people who have different backgrounds and skill sets can be difficult, though. I've developed my communication, time-management, and teamwork abilities to contribute effectively to group assignments. It's critical to establish clear expectations with your group members, communicate freely and with respect, and assign work depending on each person's skills.
I look forward to the upcoming semester and hopefully meeting a social friend.
I had never thought of applying to university after I decided to take a break from school and started to work. I ended up taking a complete turn in career choices as the path I chose to follow in high school is completely different than the path I am following now. My dream was to work in the Medical field now I am pursuing a career in Business.
The courses I am currently studying along with my lecturers are:
Introduction to Business Administration- Mr. Ricardio Madden
Introduction to Psychology- Mr. Rockesh Ashman
Orientation to University Life- Ms. Carissa Beckford
Fundamentals of Accounting- Ms. Sheena Taylor
This is currently my first semester and it has been a rough one. I am pursuing a Bachelor in Business Administration with a major in Accounting. I also work as an Accountant and time is the most important aspect of my work. Apart from trying to balance work and school, my life at UCC has been great. I can't complain. Due to working in the Accounting field I am able to apply the knowledge I have garnered over the years so I am able to learn, participate in classes and also help my fellow classmates in areas they may not understand. I chose to pursue my Bachelors online as I wanted to be more flexible in balancing my work and school, due to this I have learned more about technology and different apps and software's that are used daily, for instance zoom and google meet for virtual meetings, I have also learned more about google apps that are online based. Because of the tight schedule I have I am unable to participate in events such as Sports Days which is very unfortunate for me as I enjoy extra curricular activities.
Working in groups have never been my strong suit, I am helpful but I am not as talkative as one should be so expressing myself is sometimes a challenge. The opportunity of working with others is very prevalent at university and I must say it is one I was not able to shy away from. From working with others I have been able to be a little more bold and expressive.
I am hoping to maneuver through university to the best of my ability, university life is very demanding, but even so I ensure to submit my assignments on time if its even at the last minute. The experience has been a new and challenging one but I have motivated myself to press on regardless of the obstacles. I hope to do well, do what is required, pass all my courses and live up to the standards of UCC.
