BURP is a summer research program for undergraduate students in Biomedical Engineering, coordinated by BMEG. The program offers weekly tutorials, social and networking opportunities, and a research symposium at the end of the summer to showcase student work.
BURP helps students build research skills, connect with peers and mentors, and engage with the BME community.
BMEG helps coordinate and run the ABBME Conference, an annual event that brings together students, researchers, and professionals from across Alberta.
Our team supports:
Planning and logistics
Abstract submissions and review
Session moderation and speaker coordination
Social and networking events during the conference
ABBME is a key opportunity for students to present research, connect with the broader BME community, and gain experience in academic event organization.
BMEG offers BMENtorship, a peer mentorship program designed to support students within the department.
Through this program, new and returning students are paired to:
Build connections across cohorts
Share advice and experiences
Support each other academically and socially
BMENtorship fosters a stronger, more supportive BME graduate community through peer-to-peer guidance and meaningful mentorship relationships.
BMEG supports students in their academic and career growth through a variety of professional development opportunities.
Our 2024 1st Year Representative has compiled a curated list of resources to help students explore and pursue their goals.
Through this initiative, students can access:
Career advising and planning tools
Skill-building workshops and certification programs
Professional communities and online forums
Internship opportunities and experiential learning options
Other valuable resources for personal and professional growth
This collection of opportunities empowers students to develop new skills, expand their networks, and prepare for future careers in biomedical engineering and beyond.
BMEG is committed to helping first-year students feel supported as they transition into graduate student life in the biomedical engineering program. Our 2026 1st Year Representatives have created a comprehensive guide designed to help new students navigate their first year with confidence.
Through this guide, students can find:
