[July 2025] One Picture (top) of Dr. Eisa at the IFAC NOLCOS 2025 conference, Reykjavik, Iceland. Another picture is with collogues and presenters who attended our organized mini-symposium on geometric control methods and estimation at the SIAM CT 2025 conference, Montreal, Canada.
[June 2025] Picture for our MDCL group at Carrabba's Italian Grill.
We celebrated Hesham passing his candidacy and publishing his results on first sensitivity-based identifiability method and test for differential-algebraic equation systems (smooth and nonsmooth) in IEEE L-CSS.
We celebrated Ahmed passing his candidacy and publishing his results on introducing a novel model-free controlled vibrational stabilization technique with application to flapping insects in IEEE L-CSS.
We welcomed our new member, Dr. Simone Martini as a postdoctoral fellow!
[July 2024] Farewell dinner picture with most MDCL members at the Phoenician Taverna restaurant; wishing Sameer Pokhrel (defended his PhD in June 2024) and Shivam Bajpai (defended his MS in July 2024) all the best in their future endeavors!
[July 2024] Shivam Bajpai defended his MS thesis "Investigating the Performance of Different Controllers in Optimized Path Tracking in Robotics: A Lie Bracket System and Extremum Seeking Approach" successfully.
[June 2024] Dr. Eisa at the golden room of the historic city hall of Stockholm, Sweden where the part of the Nobel prize ceremony takes place. This was part of the European Control Conference (ECC) 2024 held at the known KTH in Stockholm. Dr. Eisa presented two of our group's papers. One paper is about applying Newton-based extremum seeking methods to decode and mimic the flight physics of soaring birds in a model-free, real-time fashion. The other paper is about robotic experimental validation of our recent theoretical results introducing a Geometric-based Kalman Filter (GEKF) that can estimate the objective function's unknown gradient in control-affine extremum seeking systems along with attenuating oscillations in said systems.
[June 2024] Sameer Pokhrel defended his PhD dissertation "Averaging and Approximation Theory for Control-Affine Extremum Seeking Systems and Decoding the Flight Physics of Soaring Birds" successfully.
[August 2023] Dr. Eisa at the International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM) 2023 in Tokyo, Japan. Dr. Eisa was awarded by SIAM-NSF an early career travel award to present his results on decoding and mimicking the optimized flight physics of soaring birds before mathematical biologists and interested industrial communities. Dr. Eisa also chaired his session of mathematical biology.
[July 2023] Dr. Eisa, Hesham, Sameer, Dr. Peter Stechlinski attended the SIAM conference on control and its applications (CT23) and presented in the mini-symposium organized by Dr. Eisa and Dr.Stechlinski. In a sunny day in Philadelphia, they also went to visit together an art museum.
[May 2023] Dr. Eisa and MDCL members along with their partners were hosted by Skye Eisa for a nice summer grill/barbeque dinner .
[May 2023] Dr. Eisa accompanied by Hesham, Sameer, Ahmed, Shivam, and Prof. Abdallah attended the UC Academic Advising Association where Dr. Eisa received an official certificate for his nomination for the outstanding first-year Advocate award.
[January 2023] The Modeling, Dynamics, and Control Group after having dinner together celebrating the breakthrough of our work on the optimized flight physics of soaring birds and the publication of such results in the SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics.
SIAM 2022 Conferences of Annual Meeting, Life Sciences and Mathematics of Planet Earth:
Dr. Eisa and Sameer Pokhrel attended and represented the MDCL with three contributed presentation (one in each conference). In Dr. Eisa's chaired session Sameer gave a presentation on some of our results on extremum seeking controls. In a presentation featured by SIAM student travel award Sameer gave a presentation on our novel results characterizing the albatross optimized flight physics as an extremum seeking system in nature. This exciting results is invited to published in SIAM news! Additionally, Dr. Eisa gave a presentation on his recent results on more accurate and well posed mathematical physical modeling of wind turbine systems; SIAM has reached out to Dr. Eisa for writing a news article on the impressive results!
IEEE 2022 Green Technologies Conference:
Dr. Eisa attended the IEEE annual summit of green technologies -- held in Houston, Texas -- to both chair a session in the conference and give a presentation on his published paper on the proceedings of the conference on new analysis that reveals issues with the wind turbine control system according to specifics imposed by industry.
AIAA 2022 Dayton-Cincinnati Aerospace Sciences Symposium:
The MDCL participated in this symposium -- held in Dayton, Ohio -- by two presentations. One was given by our PhD student Sameer Pokhrel on geometric control analysis of the albatross flight physics. The other was given by our Master's student Shivam Bajpai on the application of extremum seeking control on formation flight.
