Create your own game!

Yes that's right, you get to create your own games! We'll be working on a trivia game together in weeks 2 and 4. The last two weeks you'll create your final project. We have some suggestions for things you could make, or you can come up with your own idea!

Micro:bits: Micro:bits are tiny computers that you can program to light up in certain patterns, and they can take input from button presses or the tilt of the device. You won't be able to take your Microbit home at the end (sorry, we only have so many!), but the website has an emulator so you can still show off what you've built!

Mad Libs: This is a Mad Libs-style game which one of our former students created. If you like, you can use this as inspiration for your own project!

If you have another idea of a game you'd like to make, you're welcome to try that as well! (maybe check with one of us first; we may be able to help steer you in the right direction)

Advanced project ideas

This time we'll be spending a full four weeks on projects, so you can make something super-awesome! You can build off of a previous project, or make something new. Here are a few general ideas to get you started:

• Make a game! One thing we'd like to really encourage you to think about is adding some kind of scoreboard to your game. Each time you re-run your code all of your variables will reset (at least in Trinket), so to keep the score data around long-term you can write them to a CSV file (We made a tutorial on this here). Being able to save a record of what you did in a game also opens up a cool possibility: games where you interact with a past version of yourself!
• You could write an algorithm that plays a game by itself, or plays against the user for a two-person game. This would work great with Snake, the number guessing game, Connect 4, or tic tac toe.
• Find a dataset that you think is interesting and find some cool ways of visualizing it. Kaggle is a great resource for finding datasets on a whole bunch of different subjects.
• Make something using Micro:bits.

These are just a few ideas. There are so many options for projects you could work on, so we're excited to see what other ideas you'll come up with!
